Now days all eyes on POK is trending in social media. What is the story behind that lets unfold it. India does not control all of Jammu and Kashmir. Part of Jammu and Kashmir is under Pakistan’s control. This area is called Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK). India considers POK to be illegally occupied by Pakistan .The part of Jammu and Kashmir that is under Pakistani control is referred to as Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK). This area is known as Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) by Pakistan. India considers this occupation illegal and maintains that the entire region of Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India.

POK is divided into two parts: Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir. Pakistan has sold some land in POK to China. This action increases China’s involvement in the region. This creates a strategic challenge for India. India needs to consider China’s power before attempting to reclaim this territory. China is a powerful country. In the past, people in POK generally favored Pakistan over India. Over time, the situation has changed. Pakistan treats people in POK as second-class citizens. Additionally, Pakistan’s economic situation exacerbates the discontent. The country’s economy is in a dire state, heavily reliant on bailouts from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves are critically low, putting the government in a difficult position. This shortage of forex reserves hampers Pakistan’s ability to import goods in large quantities, further straining the economy. The combination of unequal treatment and economic hardship has made life increasingly difficult for the people in POK, leading them to demand better treatment and greater autonomy.

In Pakistan, inflation has increased drastically, making everyday goods very expensive. People are struggling to buy food, paying excessively high prices. There is a severe shortage of essential items like wheat. Due to this scarcity, people have resorted to looting vehicles carrying wheat. Mobs often gather at places where wheat is being sold, leading to chaotic scenes as they try to secure food for their families.

People in Pakistan are very frustrated. There is a severe shortage of electricity, leading to frequent power cuts. The government has ordered malls and shops to close before 7 PM to save electricity. This has badly affected the economy, making the situation even worse.

The situation in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK) worsened during recent protests. Initially, people were peacefully protesting. However, the SDM ordered the police to use sticks against the protesters. This action by the police angered the people, and the protest turned violent as a result.

In response to the police action, the public became frustrated and violence erupted in the region. People attacked the Pakistani police force, and in some incidents, they even pushed police officers down hills.

Why this violence is happen?

The people of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK) are experiencing severe frustration due to a combination of factors. Firstly, there has been a drastic increase in inflation, making it increasingly expensive for them to afford basic necessities. Additionally, they feel a sense of unequal treatment by the Pakistani government, which exacerbates their discontent.

One of the sources of frustration is the utilization of resources, particularly the Mangla Dam situated in POK. This dam contributes significantly to Pakistan’s electricity production, accounting for around 20% of the country’s total consumption. However, despite its location in POK, only 30% of the electricity generated by the Mangla Dam is allocated to the region. This disparity in resource allocation has led to frequent power cuts and electricity shortages in POK, further aggravating the living conditions of its residents.

Amidst these grievances, the Pakistani government has accused India of instigating the protests in POK. They claim that India is behind the unrest, citing various reasons to support their allegation. However, these claims have not been substantiated with concrete evidence, and the true cause of the protests remains a subject of contention.

Overall, the people of POK are grappling with economic hardships, feelings of unequal treatment, and electricity shortages, which have fueled their frustration and discontent with the government. The allegations of external interference add another layer of complexity to the situation, highlighting the ongoing tensions in the region.
